Privacy

This policy covers three things — the SubBridge website, the SubBridge macOS app, and the SubBridge browser extension.

Website (subbridge.app)

What we collect

If you submit the waitlist form, we store your email address so we can notify you at launch. If you accept the cookie banner, we load optional analytics (page interactions, heatmaps, session recordings). If you decline, we don't.

Tools we use

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, aggregate page views and sources. Always on, no personal data.
  • Microsoft Clarity — heatmaps and session recordings. Loads only after you accept the banner.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection for the waitlist form. Strictly necessary.
  • Resend — email delivery once you join the waitlist.

Legal basis

Your consent for Clarity and the waitlist email. Legitimate interest for Turnstile (spam protection) and cookieless web analytics.

How to withdraw consent

Click to reopen the banner and change your choice, or clear this site's data in your browser.

SubBridge App

This section describes the current version of the SubBridge macOS app. The app processes data locally on your device. It does not connect to any SubBridge backend, send analytics, or use AI services. If processing changes in a future version, this policy will be updated before that version ships.

What the app does on your device

  • Reads subtitle files (.srt, .vtt) that you open or drag in. Files stay on your device — they are never uploaded.
  • Receives playback information from the SubBridge browser extension or supported local players (VLC, QuickTime). This data — current time, paused state, video URL, video title — stays on your device. See the Browser Extension section for details on what the extension reads.
  • Stores your settings and sessions in ~/Library/Application Support/SubBridge/ (macOS standard location). This includes your style preferences, saved subtitle sessions, and hotkey bindings.

What the app does not do

  • No accounts, no sign-in.
  • No subscriptions, no payments processed.
  • No data sent to SubBridge servers.
  • No third-party analytics.
  • No AI services contacted.
  • No telemetry.

Software updates

If you have automatic updates enabled (default), the app checks subbridge.app/appcast.xml periodically for new releases. This request includes only your current version — no other identifying information.

Browser Extension

The SubBridge browser extension is a small companion to the SubBridge macOS app. It reads video playback information from web pages and forwards it to the desktop app over a local connection on your computer.

What the extension reads

  • Video playback information from <video> elements: current time, paused state, duration, playback rate.
  • Page URL and title of the tab containing the video.

Where this data goes

  • Only to the SubBridge macOS app on your own computer, via a local WebSocket connection (ws://127.0.0.1:<port>). Nothing leaves your device.
  • The extension does not send any data to SubBridge servers, third parties, or any external service.

What the extension does NOT collect

  • Video frames or visual content.
  • Cookies, login state, or authentication tokens.
  • Page content beyond URL and title.
  • Personally identifiable information.
  • Financial information.
  • Location data.

Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions it needs to detect video elements on the pages you actively use. It does not store any persistent data outside session memory. If future versions need additional permissions, the justification will be disclosed in the updated extension listing and this privacy policy.

Source

The extension is published in the Chrome Web Store. Its permanent extension ID is pghapiadaoacpclgglmbapnlgeekchil.
